He’s been pulling out all the stops to try and avoid or at least prolong having to go to prison, but Wesley Snipes' time is up.

The “Blade” actor has been ordered to jail by a federal judge who granted a government motion based on Snipes’ 2008 tax evasion conviction.

Sports movies are usually not supposed be too realistic. We watch them for their sheer entertainment value - the motivational speeches, the buzzer beating shots, the underdog stories that defy all odds. And while some movies, such as Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, about a down and out wrestler (Mickey Rourke) in search of one last comeback, handle sports with far greater nuance, they are definitely the exception to the rule.

With the decision handed down on Thursday (April 24), U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges announced in an Ocala, Fla., courtroom that Wesley Snipes will be serving three years in jail on charges of tax evasion.

After the sentence was read and with his wife looking on, Snipes said to the judge: "I'm very sorry for my mistakes and errors. I apologize to my family, the court and the community. I've asked the court to show me mercy and the opportunity to make things right."
