Report: Steve Martin Conned By German Forgery Experts
With his investment not panning out as he'd hoped, new reports claim that Steve Martin was the victim of fraud at the hands of a professional art forgery network in Germany.
The "Pink Panther" star is said to have purchased a Heinrich Campendonk painting titled “Landscape With Horses” back in 2004 for $850,000, but later was only able to get $600,000 upon attempting to resell in 2006.
The latest revelations in the Martin art debacle tell that his supposed Campendonk purchase was an expert fabrication stemming from a ring of German con-artists - who allegedly sold multiple pieces claimed to have come from a collection that was hidden during the Nazi regime's reign.
Spiegel reports that Martin's painting, along with numerous others, are currently being investigated as members of the scamming group were arrested in 2010.
