Finally confirming what had been expected for months, NBC announced on Saturday (May 11) that it has cancelled "Smash" after two seasons on the network.
The show, about a Broadway musical, starred "American Idol" alum Katharine McPhee, and was one of the peacock network's big performers in its debut season, but fell off the radar as of late.

Though her NBC series "Smash" is having ratings struggles, Debra Messing has secured another gig to get her through any uncertainties.
Strangely enough, it is "Smash" executive producers Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky that brought the red-haired beauty on for a CBS comedy pilot.
Making shifts to its ever-changing lineup, NBC announced on Wednesday (March 13) that “Smash” will move to Saturdays from its Tuesday time slot.
Seventeen episodes were ordered for the show, which follows the behind the scenes drama of a Broadway musical, and the switch is set to begin on April 6.
