Slumdog Kids Get Cheerful Homecoming Welcome
They’ve had quite a ride after their movie “Slumdog Millionaire” won 8 Oscars at Sunday’s Academy Awards. And earlier today the child stars of the movie returned home to Mumbai, India.
Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail (9 and 10 years old, respectively) received a true hero’s welcome as they arrived at Mumbai International Airport, with family and friends surrounding them immediately.
Getting back to life as usual, Ali headed home to the Behrampada slum area in Mumbai, an instant dose of reality after spending time in the lap of luxury in the United States.
Ismail was escorted by his father, mother, and older sister back to their home in the slum as well, though the movie’s success will hopefully improve their conditions.
