“Saturday Night Live” to Hire Black Female Cast Member
It’s been almost seven years since Maya Rudolph exited “Saturday Night Live” in 2007 and since then they haven’t had an African American woman on the cast.
But that’s all about to change, as head honcho Lorne Michaels is currently sifting through auditions in hopes of adding a fabulous female in January.
Michaels declared, "All told we've seen about 25 people. A lot of the people we saw are really good. Hopefully we'll come out of the process well."
As for why the show hasn’t hired a black woman in years, Lorne noted, "It doesn’t help if somebody's not ready – and 'ready' is one of the charged words. But you want to be sure you give people the best possible shot. Versatility is what we look for."
