Robin Roberts Leaves 'GMA' Earlier Than Expected

Although she planned on finishing out the week before taking medical leave, Robin Roberts was joined by her sister Sally while announcing on “Good Morning America” Thursday (August 30) that she needs to bow out early.

Just one day before she was expected to take a break from her anchoring duties to begin treatment for the rare blood disorder, MDS, the newscaster told viewers, “I’m having to move up my schedule, some things happened at home.”

Kicking off her last week of work before taking a medical leave, Robin Roberts happily greeted fans outside the ABC studios in New York City on Monday (August 27).

Robin Roberts Announces Leave From “Good Morning America”

She’s the first thing many folks wake up to in the morning, but Robin Roberts will be taking an extended absence from her “Good Morning America” duties to deal with health issues.

According to a report, the beloved host is gearing up for a bone marrow transplant to fight off her myelodysplastic syndrome, beginning in late August or early September.

Robin Roberts "Comforted" By Fan Support While Battling Illness
