Labor Day Weekend: "The Help" Continues Box Office Reign

A mainstay atop the movie world over the past month, "The Help" once again snatched up the top spot at the box office during Labor Day weekend of September 2-5, 2011.

The Emma Stone starring book-based picture, which has been perched atop the movie money-making list for the fourth straight week, pulled in $3.6 million on Friday and $5.4 million on Saturday while pacing towards a four-day weekend total of approximately $18 million.

With expected Hollywood earnings of $120 million cut by a hefty projected loss of 25% thanks to Hurricane Irene, "The Help" held onto the top spot at the box office during the dismally slow weekend of August 26-28, 2011.

The Emma Stone starring book-based picture, which has been perched atop the movie money-making list for the third straight week, pulled in $4.2 million on Friday with a weekend total of approximately $14.5 million.

The James Franco/Freida Pinto starring origins-based picture pulled in $8.1 million on Friday while garnering a $27 million take during it's second weekend of release.

Adding to the long list of summer blockbusters, the much-buzzed Rupert Wyatt remake "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" hits theaters today (August 5).

The “127 Hours” hunk arrived at the Ed Sullivan Theater in a brown jacket, but quickly changed into a dapper suit for his interview with Mr. Letterman.
