Box Office: "Oz: The Great and Powerful" Powers to the Top
Powering its way into theaters, "Oz: The Great and Powerful" blew the competition away to take top honors at the box office for March 8-10, 2013.
Disney's tale of the man who would become the Wizard took in $24.1 million on its opening Friday and scored the third largest domestic March opening in history with an $80.3 million weekend.
Sliding into the second spot was the fantasy flick, and last week's Number 1, "Jack the Giant Slayer," which garnered a respectable $10 million for its second weekend in release.
Rounding out the top five in earmarked earnings are the Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman fronted "Identity Thief" ($6.3) in third, the new action flick "Dead Man Down" ($5.4 million) in fourth, followed by Dwayne Johnson's"Snitch" ($5.1 million) in fifth.
