Box Office: "The Hunger Games" Tops "Reunion" & "Titanic"
Trumping the competition for the third week in a row, "The Hunger Games" comfortably remained in the top spot at the box office to kick off the Easter holiday weekend of April 6-8, 2012.
The Jennifer Lawrence starring Sci-Fi/Action/Drama film based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling book raked in an estimated $12.9 million on Friday with its weekend total predicted to wind up at a solid $33.5 million.
Battling it's way into the runner-up position is Universal's newly released "American Reunion," as the "American Pie" franchise follow-up sold an approximated $9.2 million in tickets on its first day in theaters with a projected opening weekend total of $21.4 million.
Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated totals are the re-released 3D version of Leonardo DiCaprio/Kate Winslet's blockbuster "Titanic" ($17.3 million), followed by the Sam Worthington starring action/adventure film "Wrath of the Titans" ($15 million) and the Julia Roberts/Lily Collins led Snow White tale "Mirror Mirror" ($11 million).
