Mindy Kaling Talks Mother's Passing & "The Mindy Project" in ELLE's Women in TV 2014
Although she continues to enjoy the success of her hit series “The Mindy Project,” Mindy Kaling admits the hilarious comedy helped her get through the toughest time of her life.
In ELLE magazine’s Women of 2014 issue, the former “Office” star opened up about her self-titled series and how it helped her cope with her mother’s passing.
“Any person that’s been in the business knows they’re so lucky to have their show picked up,” Miss Kaling explained. “It happens to a small fraction of shows. But I was lucky personally, because I needed a distraction so badly from my grief.”
“Still my thoughts flutter towards [my mother] in scenes that I’m doing, every night before I go to bed, and every morning when I wake up,” she added.
Also discussing Mindy’s strong personality, her best friend and current collaborator BJ Novak stated, “[Mindy’s] a gangster and guys respond to that. This is not a girl who waits by the phone. This is a girl who picks up the phone and calls whoever she wants."
