Stepping up to support a cause she believes in, Marion Cotillard joined protesters outside the Palais Royal in Paris, France on Friday (November 15).

The “Dark Knight Rises” starlet locked herself in a mock prison cell to demand the release of 30 jailed members of Greenpeace’s Arctic Sunrise boat crew, who are being held in Russia.

Cotillard smiled as she held a sign that read “I Am A Climate Defender,” as a sign of solidarity with the 28 activists and two reporters that were arrested on September 19th after a Russian oil rig protest in the Barents Sea.

A rep from the Investigative Committee in Russia shared, "The decision has been made to transfer all 30 of the accused to detention centers in St. Petersburg. The charges against them do not fall under the jurisdiction of courts in the Murmansk region."
