Madonna Dedicates Her Striptease to Young Heroine
She’s no stranger to using the stage to make headlines, and recently Madonna caused quite a controversy after dedicating a striptease performance to a young Pakistani girl.
On Wednesday (October 10), the 54-year-old songstress was performing at the Staples Center in Los Angeles as part of her MDNA tour, when she told her audience that she wanted to have a “serious talk” with them.
According to Entertainment Today, Madonna then told the crowd, “The 14-year-old Pakistani girl who was shot on a school bus for writing a blog about how important education was to her. The Taliban stopped her bus and shot her ... Do you understand the sickness and absurdity of this?” She then added a supportive chant of “Support education! Support the people who support women!"
The teen girl who the Grammy winner was referring to was Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban on Tuesday for a blog she started when she was 11, focusing on support of girls’ education.
To make her statement even more of a show stopper, Madonna then said, “This song is for Malala," before singing her “Human Nature” track and stripping down to lacy lingerie.
After news of the incident spread to Pakistan, many were outraged at the actions. Twitter user @bijm30caahm, wrote, "Not the right way to pay Homage to Brave Malala. Its a way to earn cheap self popularity."
