Her film "12 Years a Slave" continues to gain Oscar-buzz and now Lupita Nyong'o chats about her acting inspiration in the February 2014 issue of Dazed & Confused magazine.

The Kenyan actress opens up about her idol Whoopi Goldberg and compares her character Patsey in the highly acclaimed flick to Michael Jackson.

Highlights from Miss Nyong'o's interview are as follows. For more, be sure to pay a visit to Dazed & Confused!

On Michael and Patsey:
"There's something very Michael Jackson-like about Patsey - the childlike quality he always had. She had her childhood stripped away from her suddenly as soon as she became of sexual age."

On Whoopi:
"Whoopi Goldberg looked like, she had hair like mine, she was dark like me. I've been starved for images of myself. I'd grown up watching a lot of American TV. There was very little Kenyan material, because we had an autocratic rule who stifled our creative expression."
