After announcing her departure from CBS News, Katie Couric has found a new home as host of a new syndicated talk show on ABC.
“I’m very happy to be returning to the network where I began my career as a desk assistant in 1979," Katie told press in a statement on Monday (June 6).
She’s spent the past five years bringing Americans their news every evening, and last night (May 19) Katie Couric signed off from “CBS Evening News” for the last time.
The 54-year-old anchor explained that she’s had a great time with the gig and met many famous people along the way.
After months of speculation about her next career move, Katie Couric is reportedly nearing the final stages of negotiations for $20 million deal with ABC.
According to TMZ, the journalist is close to signing the package, which would offer her ABC News "20/20 specials as well as fill-in anchoring gigs and a syndicated one-hour talk show.
She recently announced she’ll be leaving her “CBS Evening News” gig next month, and Katie Couric's replacement will be none other than Scott Pelley.
The “60 Minutes” correspondent comes highly recommended by his executive producer Jeff Fager, who described him as “among the very best reporters ever to work at CBS News.”
