Johnny Depp’s Tribute to Heath Ledger

He’s such a huge movie star he needs his own island, and Johnny Depp recently revealed some of the finer points of Little Hall’s Pond Cay, located in the Bahamas.

The ‘Edward Scissorhands” stud talked with Vanity Fair about his 45-acre paradise explaining, “It’s my way of trying to return to normalcy. Escapism is survival to me.”

One of the island’s greatest features is that it has six different beaches, all named after significant people in Depp’s life. Vanessa Paradis (his partner) along with Lily Rose and Jack (his children) and mentors Hunter S. Thompson and Marlon Brando all have the honor of having beaches named after them.

And it seems Heath Ledger had quite an effect on Depp, as he named one patch of water “Heath’s Place” in honor of the late actor.

Johnny shared, “I don't think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It's instant freedom. And that rare beast—simplicity—can be had. And a little morsel of anonymity. Whenever I was getting frustrated about being 'novelty boy' and making movies, I told myself, 'Calm down. I can come down here and disappear.' I spent the Christmas season here with Vanessa and the kids. You can feed hot dogs to the nurse sharks in the Exumas — but it's best to not swim when doing it."
