“The Hunger Games” Sequel Selects Director

It was a bit of a shock when Gary Ross announced he’d be parting ways with the ultra-successful “The Hunger Games” franchise, but Lionsgate has already found a new director to take his place.

According to a report, Francis Lawrence will get the offer to helm “Catching Fire,” and he’ll more than likely accept the gig.

Edging out the competition for the fourth week in a row, "The Hunger Games" remained in the top spot at the box office to kick off the weekend of April 13-15, 2012.

The Jennifer Lawrence starring Sci-Fi/Action/Drama film based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling book earned an estimated $6.5 million on Friday and another $9.5 million on Saturday with its weekend total predicted to wind up at $21.7 million - which takes the blockbuster's Stateside cume to a whopping $335.7 million!

Gary Ross is Out for “Catching Fire”

He did a killer job directing “The Hunger Games,” but Gary Ross will not be returning to helm the sequel “Catching Fire.”

The well-respected director announced the decision last night, noting that he “doesn’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule.”

Sofia Vergara Channels Effie for "Hunger Games" SNL Spoof

Showing off her comedic side, Sofia Vergara took on the role of Effie Trinket from "The Hunger Games" as one of her skits from this weekend's (April 7) "Saturday Night Live" hosting gig.

The "Modern Family" beauty wore a lavender colored wig that closely resembled that of Elizabeth Banks' character from the wildly popular action/adventure flick while joined in the segment by SNL veterans, Bill Hader and Fred Armisen, who posed as the commentators for the games.
