Getting a late start to her birthday celebrations, Gwyneth Paltrow arrived at the Standard Hotel in New York City for lunch this afternoon (October 5).

The newly 40-year-old actress looked stunning in a short white dress with darling orange pumps.

In related news, Miss Paltrow spent her actual birthday (September 27) in Italy with her family.

During the getaway, she and hubby Chris Martin reportedly enjoyed the flavors of the countryside on a beautiful yacht in Portofino.
