Children’s National Medical Center Patients Design Celebrity Jewelry
With awards show season currently going on, celebrities have been trying their best to dress to impress at the various red carpet events in Tinseltown.
And Lorraine Schwartz has taken her jewelry design to the next level by asking patients from the Children’s National Medical Center to help her put together pieces for stars like Beyoncé Knowles and Katy Perry.
Taking an art therapy approach, Schwartz said she got the idea from her own mother, who battled and succumbed to lung cancer.
“One of the most memorable times for our family was when my mother made jewelry during her chemotherapy treatments. It was so therapeutic for all of us. We still have those pieces and cherish them.”
And it sounds like Ms. Knowles was quite pleased with the jewelry a 12-year-old fan named Jozlyn made with Lorraine. “There was a lot of thought put into that. Beyoncé couldn’t have been more touched. She’s the biggest star in the world to her … and [Jozlyn] was beyond excited to find out she wore her jewelry.”
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift received a diamond and amethyst bracelet from a little guy name Jaimin. “Jaimin started making jewelry before he got sick. He came prepared with all the jewelry making tools. He wanted diamonds to sparkle because Taylor sparkles,” noted Schwartz.
Eight-year-old Arabelle had her sights set on “Hot N Cold” songstress Katy Perry, said Lorraine. “[Arabelle] made a flower and a butterfly, because she thinks of [Perry] that way. She performed [‘Firework’] after she finished chemo.”
And Miley Cyrus got lucky with a bracelet and earrings set from Sammi. “Miley wore [the bracelet] at Clive [Davis]‘s party and she was beyond thrilled.”
