It may have missed the Golden Globe cut, but “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is more than making up for the loss with big numbers so far.
The Peter Jackson flick opened at midnight last night (December 13) and has already brought in $13 million in ticket sales, making it the biggest December midnight screening ever.
Stepping out to promote their highly-anticipated film, the stars of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” took to The Ziegfeld Theater for what was a grand New York City premiere on Thursday (December 6).
All looking dapper in their red carpet best, co-stars Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman worked the press line and greeted fans before heading in to the main spectacle.

The half-minute offering features narration directly from the original J.R.R. Tolkien novel for the film finding Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) continue his journey to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom.
New Line Cinema and MGM released the first international TV spot for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” on Monday (October 15).
In the clip, Bilbo Baggins continues his journey to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom and is joined by stars including Elijah Wood, Evangeline Lilly, Cate Blanchett and Orlando Bloom.
