After a long battle with cancer, legendary film critic Roger Ebert died on Thursday (April 4).

The 70-year-old lost his fight with thyroid and salivary gland cancer this afternoon, according to a report from the Chicago Sun-Times.

Roger was the head film critic for the Windy City publication for 46 years and also offered up his skills on television for 31 years.

Back in 2006, Ebert lost part of his lower jaw from the cancer, which was diagnosed back in 2002. Although he couldn’t communicate with his voice, Roger took advantage of technology by speaking through an advanced computer system and writing on his webpage coined rogerebert.com.
