"Cars 2" Races to the Top of the Box Office
Speeding past the competition, "Cars 2 3D" raced its way to the top spot at the box office over the weekend of June 24-26, 2011.
The Pixar/Disney offering continued in the trend of animation domination by earning $25.7 million on opening day while churning out an estimated weekend take of $68 million.
Garnering the runner-up position was the Cameron Diaz/ Justin Timberlake starring comedy "Bad Teacher" - with the raunchy Jake Kasdan directed picture pulling in an opening day total of $12.1 million en route to an approximate weekend total of $31 million.
Rounding out the top five were the Ryan Reynolds/ Blake Lively fronted comic book based movie "Green Lantern" ($18.3 million), followed by "Super 8" ($12.1 million) and "Mr. Popper's Penguins" ($10.3 million).
