“Captain Phillips” Scores $600K For Thursday Night Opening
He’s one of the greatest actors of all time, and Tom Hanks helped bring in $600,000 in ticket sales for the Thursday night (October 10) opening of his new movie “Captain Phillips.”
The Somali pirate drama is directed by Paul Greengrass and was made for approximately $55 million. Studio insiders predict it will make up $20 million of that budget this weekend.
Meanwhile, “Machete Kills” totaled $200,000 in its first night, putting Danny Trejo, Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hudgens, and Mel Gibson all on the same silver screen.
And of course, “Gravity” is still kicking butt and taking names- it’s expected to jump past the $80 million line for domestic sales tonight (October 11).
